During the screen lock setup, if you enable the secure start-up option, you need to enter the secure startup Password/PIN/Pattern during every restart.
Until you enter the secure startup credentials, your phone won’t be able to get calls, messages, notifications, or sound alarms.
In this post, we are going to learn how to bypass the secure startup screen if you’ve forgotten the PIN, Pattern or, Password –
I’m stuck on the Secure Start-up pattern lock screen on my LG Journey. I don’t remember the Pattern lock.
We get 30 attempts to enter the correct screen Pattern/PIN/Password.
After every 10 failed attempts, we need to restart the phone and try again.
Once you’ve exhausted the 30 attempts, the phone will be automatically reset & all files will be erased.
There is no need to waste so much time if you don’t remember the secure startup credentials, you can hard reset using the volume down and power buttons.
How to bypass Secure Startup on LG Journey
We cannot bypass the secure startup screen without doing a reset.
To reset the phone, we need to power off the phone.
Long-press the power button and tap “Power off”.
Once the phone is off, press the volume down and power buttons as shown above.
When the LG logo appears on the screen, release the power button for a moment and hold it again. (Don’t release the volume down key).
If done correctly, the phone must on the “Factory data reset” screen.
On this page, we need to use the volume rocker and power button. The touch doesn’t work.
Move down from “No(Exit)” to “Yes” using the volume down key. Now, press the power button to select “Yes”.
Repeat the steps. Again move down from “No” to “Yes” and click the Power key to begin the factory data reset.
The phone is getting erased now. We need to wait for a few minutes.
We’ve landed on the “Welcome” page of the setup wizard.
In the next step, we need to connect to the internet via Wifi or Mobile data.
Hit “Set up as new” to proceed further.
Once again it’s asking for the Screen lock pattern. This time we get an alternate option – “USE MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT INSTEAD”.
We need to verify with the previously synced Google account on this device. Enter the Google account credentials and follow the on-screen prompts to finish the setup wizard.
If you don’t remember the last-synced Google account, you can use the below hack to get past the Google verification screen –
How to bypass Google Verification on LG Journey LTE
Let’s break the FRP Bypass process into 5 parts for ease of understanding –
STEP 1: Use another phone to lock a SIM Card
I’m using LG K40 to lock a Metro SIM Card –
If using an LG phone, Go to Settings > Lock Screen & Security.
Now, select “Set up SIM Card lock” and tap “Lock SIM card” as shown above.
It’s asking for the current SIM. If using a Metro SIM the default PIN is 1234
Enter the PIN and hit “OK”.
The SIM card lock is enabled.
Let’s install this locked SIM on LG Journey.
Use a SIM ejector tool to remove the LG Journey SIM tray.
Place the locked SIM, in its respective slot as shown above.
The phone is asking for the SIM PIN.
Enter the PIN code 1234 and tap the tick icon.
There is a “Not signed in” notification on the screen.
Swipe down the screen starting from the “Not signed in” notification towards the bottom of the screen. You can follow the arrow marked in the above screenshot.
A few quick access icons have appeared on the top of the screen.
Long-press the “Bluetooth icon” to launch this page.
Turn on Bluetooth.
Once again, we need to use another phone to send an image file to LG Journey via Bluetooth.
STEP: Use another phone to send an image file to LG Journey via Bluetooth
I’m once again using LG K40 to send a picture via Bluetooth.
Let’s open the Gallery app and open a photo. Hit the share icon to send this file.
We need to choose the sharing medium as “Bluetooth”.
The available Bluetooth device is “LG L322DL”. This is the model number of LG Journey.
Tap “LG L322DL” to send the image file.
Now, check your LG Journey screen.
Tap “ACCEPT” to receive the Bluetooth File.
Now, hit the “3 dots icon” and select “Received files” to view the file.
The image file is Screenshot.png. Tap on it to open.
STEP 3: Open the received file with the “Photos” app & get access to the Screen lock setup page
The Gallery is set as the default app to open this file. We need to open it with the “Photos” app.
Tap “Photos” and select “JUST ONCE” or “ALWAYS” as shown above.
Allow the Photos app to access media files on your device. Tap “Allow” to do the same.
Now, hit the “Share icon” to share this image file.
We need to use the sharing medium as “Email”.
Allow the Email app to access your contacts & media files. Hit “Allow” to accept the request.
In the next step, we need to select the Email provider. Choose “Other” to move ahead.
Now, type any email address and select “MANUAL SETUP” to proceed further.
Select the account type as “Microsoft Exchange”.
This brings us to the “Server Settings” page.
The last option on this page is “Client certificate”. Hit “Add” to add a client certificate.
STEP 4: Add a new Screen PIN, Pattern, or Password
A pop-up appears on the screen. It says we need to change to a secure screen lock to use credential storage.
Hit “CHANGE” to do the needful.
We are now on the “Protect your phone” page.
Here we can add a PIN, Pattern, or password. This new screen lock will replace the old lock.
Let’s add a Screen PIN.
Skip the Secure start-up page by choosing the “No, thanks” option.
I’ve added 1234 as the PIN lock.
We need to confirm the PIN.
The Screen lock has been changed. Let’s use this PIN to bypass the Google account.
We need to go back to the “Welcome” page.
STEP 5: Go back to the Welcome page and bypass the Google verification screen
Use the back button to go back to the first page of the setup wizard.
We have reached the Welcome page.
Use the forward arrow to move ahead.
Hit “NEXT” to proceed further.
Tap “Set up as new”.
We are now on the PIN verification page.
Use the PIN we added in the last step i.e. 1234 and hit “OK”.
We have successfully bypassed the screen lock page.
This time, we get the “Skip” option on the Google sign-in page.
“Skip” Google account set up to move ahead.
Accept Google services terms and conditions.
We have reached the last page of the setup wizard i.e. the “Legal documents” page.
Tick the “I agree” checkbox and hit “DONE” to finish the setup wizard.
We have successfully landed on the LG Journey home screen thus bypassing the Secure startup screen.
