LG Journey L322dl move apps to SD card Tracfone 2022

LG Journey is one of the most popular budget Android smartphones for Tracfone. It was launched with Android 9 Pie and is now updated to Android 10.

The journey is an entry-level prepaid smartphone with a very limited 16GB internal storage. The actual usable storage is less than 8GB. To cater to this issue we can install an external SD card.

However, the apps & games still occupy the internal storage on Android. So, ultimately the internal memory will get filled in a few months’ time.

The solution to this problem is “Adoptable Storage”. This feature is disabled and we need to enable it by USB Debugging. After partitioning the SD card as internal storage you can move the internal storage data to the SD card and make it the default storage space for apps & games installation.

Let’s see how to do this with the help of the below screenshots –

How to move Apps to SD card on LG Journey L322dl Android 10 Tracfone, Straight Talk, Walmart Family Mobile, Total Wireless

  1. Make sure to backup your internal storage data. I’m not responsible for any data loss.
  2. Use a high-speed Micro SD card.
  3. The camera app may not work after partitioning the SD card. You need to download a 3rd party camera app from the Play Store.
  4. After flashing the SD card as internal storage you need to keep the memory card installed in the phone all the time. Else you may face app crash issues.

First of all, we are going to install the memory card.

Use a SIM ejector tool to remove the LG Journey SIM Tray.

Place the Micro SD memory card in its respective slot and push back the SIM tray.

In the next step, we are going to turn on Developer Options and then USB Debugging.

The developer mode is kept hidden by default. We need to tap the “Build Number” multiple time to enable it.

Swipe down your LG Journey home screen to open the notification panel. Now, click the Settings icon at the top-right corner.

In the Settings app, Go to “System” > “About Phone”.

Now, open “Software Info” and then tap the “Build Number” 7 times.

A confirmation text flashes at the bottom – “You are now a developer!”.

Now, go 2 steps back to reach the “System” page.

On the “System” screen there is a new option above About Phone – “Developer Options”.

Click on it & accept the warning.

Now, scroll down on the “Developer Options” page and enable “USB Debugging” as shown above.

Approve the “Allow USB Debugging request” by tapping “OK”.

Now, we are ready to connect our LG Journey to the computer. Use a Micro USB cable to connect your phone to the PC.

You can see the “USB debugging connected” notification on the screen.

Now, wait for the LG Journey ADB driver to install.

I checked the installation status in the Device Manager on my PC. The LGE Mobile ADB Interface driver is installed successfully.

Now, we need the “Minimal ADB & Fastboot Tool” to write the ADB commands.

You can download this tool from the below link –

Save this setup file on your PC and install the software.

Now, launch Minimal ADB and Fastboot.

To check the ADB connection, write the command adb devices and hit enter.

The connected phone is visible as LGL322DL but it shows as unauthorized.

We need to authorize the connected PC for USB Debugging. Please check your LG Journey screen.

Approve the “Allow USB Debugging” request as shown above.

Now, again type the adb devices command

The output has changed to LGL322DL device

We are now ready to partition the SD card as internal storage.

Write the first command adb shell sm list-disks and click enter.

The output shows the memory card detail disk:179,64

It can vary depending upon the micro SD card used. It can be disk:179,128 or something else in your case. We are going to use it accordingly in the command line a few steps later.

Now, write the next ADB command adb shell sm list-volumes all

To enable Adoptable storage write the ADB command adb shell sm set-force-adoptable true

Now, comes the crucial step. We are now going to partition the SD card. You can reserve some space as external storage or use the whole space as internal storage.

The command line for mixed storage where 60 percent space is used as internal storage the command line would be –

adb shell sm partition disk:179,64 mixed 60

To partition the entire SD card space as internal storage write the command –

adb shell sm partition disk:179,64 private

Make sure to use the correct disk name in the above command. It’s disk:179,64 in my case.

The partitioning will take some time depending upon the write speed of the memory card.

Now, we are going to move the internal storage data to the SD card.

Write the next command –

adb shell sm list-volumes

The output of this command contains the UUID code 3db25c55-bd99-4341-a829-ac593b20df44

Copy the UUID code to use in the next command line. It will be different in your case.

Using the copied UUID code the next ADB command would be –

adb shell pm move-primary-storage 3db25c55-bd99-4341-a829-ac593b20df44

The output of the above command is Sucess

We have successfully partitioned the SD card as internal storage and moved the internal storage data to the SD card.

You can check the notification on the LG Journey screen –

Move complete – Data Moved to SD card

Now, let’s open the Storage folder to check the internal storage space.

Pull down the notification panel and tap the Settings icon.

In the Settings app, click “Storage” to open it.

You can see the Total internal storage space is changed to 24GB.

A part of the SD card is now the default storage space for apps & games.

How to revert the changes and format the SD card as external storage

If you wish you can partition the SD card once again as external storage.

Tap “SD Card” and hit the “3 dots icon” as shown above.

Now, select “Format as Portable” and then click “Format”.

Now, the complete SD card space i.e 8 GB is available as external storage.

The above method works on LG Android 8 & 10. For some reason, it doesn’t work on Android 9. You can use it on LG Journey Android 10.
