While setting up a screen lock PIN, pattern, or password, you should always note it down somewhere. We tend to forget it, especially if setting a new one that was never used before.
On LG Journey, if you’re locked out due to the forgotten pin, pattern, or password, you need to hard reset the phone using the volume down and power buttons.
First of all, let’s try to restore our phone without doing a reset. Let’s see if we can get past the lock screen without losing the internal storage data –
How to bypass Screen lock on LG Journey lte l322dl Tracfone, Straight Talk, Family Mobile, Simple Mobile, Total Wireless
You can see I’m stuck on the Pattern lock screen. I don’t remember the correct Pattern.
I kept trying in the hope to get an account recovery option in the form of “Forgot password” or “Google account sign-in”.
After 5 failed attempts we need to wait for 30 seconds to try again. The wait time keeps increasing after every few failed attempts.
Even after 50 tries, I didn’t get any kind of account recovery option.
This made one thing clear, we cannot bypass the LG Journey lock screen without a reset.
Now, to hard reset the phone, we need to power it off.
It’s not allowing me to power off the phone without unlocking the screen.
As we failed to power off the phone, we are going to restart it.
Long-press the power button and select “Power off and restart” and then “RESTART” as shown above.
Now, immediately hold the volume down and power buttons.
During the restart, as soon as the LG logo appears on the screen, release the power key for a moment and hold it again (Don’t release the volume down button). Keep holding both the keys until you reach the “Factory data reset” screen.
This factory data reset page is the LG Journey recovery mode.
In this mode, the touch doesn’t work. Use the volume rocker and power buttons.
Move down from “No” to “Yes” using the volume down key and hit the Power button to select “Yes”.
Again move down from “No” to “Yes” and click the Power key to begin factory data reset.
The phone is being erased now. Let’s wait for a few minutes.
Now, we have landed on the Welcome page.
Hit the “Forward” button to move ahead.
Connect to the internet using Wifi or Mobile data.
Now, it’s checking for updates. We need to wait for a while.
Select “Set up as new” to proceed further.
We are now on the lock screen verification page. As I don’t know the pattern, I’ll use the other option – “USE MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT INSTEAD”.
This brings us to the Google verification page. Now, we need to sign-in to the previously synced Google account on this device. Sign in to your Google account and finish the setup wizard to bypass the lock screen.

Let’s divide the Google bypass process into 5 steps –
STEP 1: Lock a SIM card using another phone and insert this SIM in LG Journey
We need to lock a SIM card. I’m using LG K40 and a MetroPCS SIM for this purpose.
If you’re using an LG phone to lock the SIM –
Open the Settings app and select “Lock Screen and Security”.
Now, choose “Set up SIM card lock”.
On the next page, tap “Lock SIM Card” as shown above.
It’s asking for the current PIN. Enter the default MetroPCS PIN 1234 and hit “OK”.
A confirmation message shows up on the screen – “SIM card lock enabled”.
Now, remove the SIM and install it on your LG Journey.
Use a SIM ejector tool to remove your LG Journey SIM tray as shown above.
Place the locked SIM in the respective slot and push back the SIM tray.
Now, look at the LG Journey phone screen. We need to enter the PIN code.
Enter the SIM PIN 1234 and hit the “tick icon”.
STEP 2: Turn on Bluetooth and receive an image file from another phone
Now, there is a notification on the screen “Not signed in”.
We need to swipe down the screen starting from “Not signed in” to the bottom. You can refer to the above screenshot.
After doing this, a few quick access icons have appeared on the top of the screen.
We need to long-press the “Bluetooth icon”. This will take us to the Bluetooth page.
Turn on Bluetooth as shown above.
Now, once again we need another phone to send an image file to Journey via Bluetooth.
I’m using LG K40 to send an image file.
Hit the Gallery app and open a photo. Now, tap the “Share icon” to send this picture.
Use “Bluetooth” to share this file.
Select the available Bluetooth device “LG L322DL”. This is the model number of LG Journey.
Now, it’s sending the file to LG L322DL.
Check your LG Journey phone screen.
Hit “ACCEPT” to receive the file.
Now, tap the “3 dots” icon on the top-right and select “Received files”.
The file received via Bluetooth is Screenshot.png.
STEP 3: Open the image file via the Photos app and get access to the Screen lock setup page
The Gallery app is set as the default app to open this file.
Change it to “Photos” and select “Just Once” or “Always” to open this picture with the Photos app.
Give access to the Photos app by tapping “ALLOW”.
Now, tap the “Share icon” to send this file.
This time, we need to choose the sharing medium as “Email”.
Now, give access to the Email app. Hit “ALLOW” to do the same.
When on the “Select email provider” page, choose “Other”.
Enter just any email address and select “MANUAL SETUP”.
Choose the account type as “Microsoft Exchange” and hit “Next”.
Now, we need to select the last option on the “Server settings” page.
Hit the “Add” option in front of “Client certificate”.
A pop-up shows up on the screen. It reads “To use credential storage, change to a secure screen lock first”.
Click “CHANGE” to accept this request.
It brings us to the “Protect your phone” page.
Here we can set up a Screen lock PIN, Pattern, or Password. This new lock will replace the old screen lock.
I’m adding a PIN. You can also add a Pattern or Password. It doesn’t matter.
STEP 4: Replace the old screen lock with a new PIN, Pattern, or Password
Select “No, thanks” on the Secure startup page and tap “NEXT”.
Now, enter the PIN. I’ve added 1234 as the new PIN.
Re-enter the PIN 1234 and hit “OK”.
A confirmation text shows up on the screen “Screen lock has been changed”. We are all done.
Now, we need to go back to the welcome page & use this new PIN to bypass the Google lock.
STEP 5: Go back to the Welcome Screen and bypass the Google verification
Use the back button to go back to the first page of the setup wizard.
We are once again on the Welcome page. Hit the forward button to move ahead.
Tap “NEXT” on the “Set internet connection” page.
Now, select “Set up as new”.
This time we are on the screen lock verification page.
We are going to verify with the PIN we added in the last step. Enter the PIN code 1234
Type the PIN and hit “OK”.
We have successfully verified the Screen PIN.
Now, we get to skip the Google account setup. Tap “Skip” at the bottom-right corner.
Now, accept Google services terms and conditions.
Tick the checkbox “I agree” and click “DONE” to finish the setup wizard.
We have reached the LG Journey home screen thus bypassing the lock screen.
If stuck at any stage, feel free to leave a comment below.
Does this process wipe data from your phone or keep some of it intact?
Its wipes the internal storage data. The memory card data is not erased.
